Unrivaled. No other word fits Anne Curtis perfectly. We could end this intro here because that just about sums up this one girl that can make any man’s heart skip a beat with a mere seductive look from those penetrating hazel brown eyes. But no, much has to be revealed about Anne who has just turned 20 last February.
Then again, despite slowly booming into beauty personified, she’s not just about to simply lay her cards on the table. Perhaps, she would like for us to keep guessing to maintain that aura of mystery to her. Just when you thought you were that close to solving her, she’d throw in more puzzle pieces just to confuse you.
Whether by simply teasing you with her lovely lips that could make even Angelina Jolie blush, or by the ay her hair dances in the air everytime she turns. Being with Anne is something surreal.
Maybe, it’s because her beauty can be likened to that of a goddess. Or maybe it’s her playfulness that makes the people around her feel comfortable. Take your pick. One thing is for sure, though we concede—UNO has met its match. And suffice to say, it’s a match made in heaven.
How was your life when you were younger?
A lot simpler. We lived in the countryside, so it really was a simple life. I’d ride the bike to school. I’d be more into sports.
Really? What kind of sports?
I used to be in track and field and netball. I competed for my school. Bit now, I enjoy wakeboarding in Batangas.
How were you as a sports person?
I was good as a track and field runner, but as a netball player, so-so.(Laughs)
When you started, you had that twang…
Yeah, the “slang” whatever. Pero now I’m more fluent, but still get bulol with some words especially with those with the “nga” and “na”.
How would you describe yourself?
Witty? And makulit. Very makulit. Some of my friends call me “bugoy” because I’m a cowgirl eh.
Really? Have you ever eaten in a carinderia?
Yeah, yeah! I’ve taken a ride in a jeepney before and tricycles also. I’ve been to Divisoria once. I went there once with my two gay friends and I was wearing a cap and went super early in the morning. People would ask, “Is that Anne Curtis?” then I’d say I just look like her.
One thing I notice, though, is that you look good whatever you wear?
Well, I go for more laidback look. Simple lang. I don’t like to overdress. Unless there’s a special event or I feel like making “pa-girl”. But as much as possible, I wear a T-shirt.
When are the times when you feel like making pa-girl?
If I have TV shows or if I have to go on dates. Or when I’m going out with my barkada.
Do you remember where you spent your first paycheck?
No, I don’t remember. But I know that the first time I ever spent a lot out of my savings was when I bought my car, a Starex.
We heard you’re having a house built right now. Isn’t that exciting?
Yeah, I’m so excited! On my way home nga, I’m gonna pass by.
How do you feel about hearing that you’re in the top three of the most beautiful faces in the country?
Hindi naman. Well, I guess it’s flattering every time, because for me, once someone tells you, aside from your family members and friends, of course it’s really nice compliment.
Are you used to being the ultimate crush ng bayan?
No naman! (Smiles) I never really looked at in that way. Whenever guys used to come up to me before, I’d feel flattered. But I never thought of myself as a “crush ng bayan.” Ayoko naman mag-isip ng ganoon ‘di ba? Hahaha!
Tell us about how you’ve transitioned to become a very fine actress?
Well, I guess it helps that I’ve been in the business for almost eight years. It’s really a learning experience . Up until now, I still have so many things to master. So far, I have mastered Tagalog pretty well. And handling emotions. It’s hard especially if they tell you to cry, so you have to learn how to emote.
Do you go to the gym? ‘Cos you’re so fit.
I’m not fit! I think it’s because I’m careful with what I eat. I’m just more aware of what can make you gain weight. If I don’t have a pictorial or anything, I’ll pig out. I eat what I want but if I know there’s a certain goal I have to reach, I’ll cut down on what I’m eating like less carbohydrates and everything.
Explain your fascination with mermaids.
I just love them! I don’t know why, but it’s really something I’d consider a fantasy. Every girl dreams of that, being a mermaid. Of course after watching “The Little Mermaid”, you can’t help but be hooked with it. It’s so majestic and everything.
How would you describe this shoot?
I’m happy with this because even though this is my first ever bikini shoot, it didn’t look bad. Alam mo iyon, the swimsuits
“I THOUGHT MY BIKINI WOULD FLY AWAY…”
–On being dared to jump off a yacht
were classy, the poses were nice, and they weren’t skimpy and cheap. (Smiles)
Do you have any hobbies?
I love to read. All sorts of books. I like Paulo Coelho, Nicholas Sparks, James Patterson, and of course Judith Mcnaught. (Giggles). I love to read love stories. I’m a hopeless romantic. I guess it helps also that these kinds of books make you feel like a princess. And I hope to see my duke and everything.
What would be your biggest fantasy?
To have a palace or a castle like in Ireland. They still exist. I want one. If I had the money, I’d buy myself a castle. That’s where I want to settle down
Ever gotten totally smashed?
Drunk? In Boracay one time, and it even came out long, long time ago. I had a little too much to drink. All my barkada were drunk.
How do you deal with obnoxious people?
I’m a very frank and honest person. If I feel something, I show it. It’s a very rare quality in showbiz to find someone who doesn’t hide behind an image. Those who act super pa-sweet but they’re not.
So basically with you, what we see is really what we get?
Yeah. I mean, I never denied whatever trouble I got myself into before. Malandi, playgirl, all those things. But I have always been honest and proved everyone else wrong. As long as I know how my family and friends know what’s true, I’m fine.
If ever you were single, what should the guy be like?
He has to be smart. As in super brainy. I hate stupid guys, those who cannot carry a decent conversation. I mean, sure, if they’re gwapo and everything, you’ll get attracted to them there’s no doubt about it. But then if you sit down and talk to each other and there’s nothing to talk about e ‘di kase in the long run, that’s all you are left with.
So you like the smart types?
Well, you can always transform nerds ‘di ba? Haha!
What direction do you plan to take career-wise?
I would like to win an award for drama. Maybe even romantic comedy. I like doing comedies also.
Would you ever kiss a girl on the lips?
Yuck! I mean if it’s a beso, girls do that a lot…
Let’s say you’re in a bar, you go to the ladies room and the hottest girl in the bar comes out. She gives you a compliment…
I’m not going to kiss her. What can you get out of it honestly ‘di ba?
No?!
I’d thank her for the compliment and then I’d hug her. Hahaha!
If you were to live the life of a Hollywood celebrity for a day…
Can I just live her life but not have half her reputation? Paris Hilton? I mean to own all those properties and live off the credit card of your mom and dad or grandparents? I mean , I’d buy everything I want! If it’s the life talaga, and how she is and all—Natalie Portman. Going to Harvard and everything.
We ask this to all UNO girls but we’d really like to know, have you ever gone skinny-dipping?
Yeah. That’s not a problem. I’ve done that a long, long time ago with my friends.
What’s the most unforgettable dare that you’ve done?
I’ve been dared a lot of times by my friends but I don’t usually do it. But there was this time when I was dared to jump off a yacht.
What happened? Was the water shallow?
No! we were out, way in the ocean and some of my friends dared me to jump. I was so afraid to do it nga kase I thought my bikini would fly away! Hahaha! I don’t know why but I still did it.
Do you like to drink? What do you usually order?
Well yes. I’ll be honest. I’m not the type naman who’d drink mineral water or whatever. GSM blue! Hahaha! But at the same time, I don’t like to get too drunk. I like to do things in moderation. (Smiles)
Let’s say we’re having a drink and you’re starting to get a little tipsy, what are the things that you’d like to tell me unguarded?
I’d talk about problems. Or I’d ask for advice. It depends on the situation and who I’m talking to. But with my girlfriends, I talk about my love life, past present, or even future. And we all end up crying. Hahaha!
Hahaha indeed! Would you ever make the first move on a guy?
Well, unless I’ve known the guy for so long time, I won’t make the first move. If I barely know the person, then there’s no way I’d make the first move ‘no!
What if the guy really likes you but it turns out he’s torpe?
For me kase, it should start with us being friends muna. I’m not into those one-month, two-month flings kase. But if I’ve known you for a long time and I really like you , maybe, just maybe I’d make the first move. I don’t want to feel awkward naman kase.
How do you deal with stalkers?
Once there was this guy who walked into dressing room during a mall tour. He said “Anne, pinsan mo ako. You texted me so I went here.” That’s the reason why I also I changed my number because people would text or call me at odd hours. It was too annoying.
Yeah, that’s hassle. Ok, how goofy can you get?
I can get super goofy. I mean, I’m that kind of person na, it’s ok with me to become unglamorous, alam mo ‘yun, na I can look stupid, and I wouldn’t really care. So ok lang, I wouldn’t really mind.
What can’t you understand about men?
Oh, haha. What I can’t understand is why they have to be possessive sometimes of their girlfriends. Ayaw nilang lumalabas. ‘Di ba, it’s usually a girl’s job is to nag? Sometimes, they don’t know that they themselves are becoming naggers already. That’s what I don’t understand. If it’s such a big problem for them that girls are nagging, why are they doing it themselves?
What’s the sexiest piece of clothing that you own?
That I own? Ang dami eh! Joke lang. Siguro, I’d have to say… my favorite mini skirt.
Tell us about it.
Well aside from the fact that it’s short, it’s so simple, kasi it’s only denim, it makes me feel sexy. It’s simple, it looks rugged, pero I still feel sexy when I wear it.
You have a lot of shows right now. Do you even find time for rest and relaxation?
Well. I really don’t have that much time to do most of the things I want, but I wouldn’t exchange any of these for anything else. If given the choice. I’d still choose this kind of work lifestyle. I mean, I’m young and I want to grab every opportunity that’s out there.
Do you think looking shy and innocent could be another way of telling a guy that you’re hot for him?
I guess, yeah. It’s possible. I mean, look at the young and sweet, innocent looking girls who always get the guy they want, ‘di ba? Yeah, that’s possible.
But you have a different style from that?
I guess it’s different for the other girls who are more aggressive, and they’re more upfront about them liking a guy, kasi… if you’re really shy and innocent, it also captures the attention of the guy by showing him that I’m this kind of girl, you be the one to make the move. Kaunting landi lang. Something to catch the guy’s attention.
“BUT IF I’VE KNOWN YOU FOR A LONG TIME…MAYBE ‘D MAKE THE FIRST MOVE.”
–On whether she’d make the first move on a guy
Since, you’ve achieved a lot at a young age, what other goals you want to achieve?
To finish the house that I’m having built. But an actress, to have an award.
You’re on your way there.
Thank you! (Smiles)
